About Creative Speech
In Speech Formation (Creative Speech), we strive for a culture of the spoken word in which the inner life is fully connected with its expression in spoken language, a medium central to the arts, education, and daily life. Through working with exercises and texts, we
Create living imaginations and dynamic meaning through the phrases, words and sounds of speech
Experience the relationship of movement and gesture to speaking
Develop an awareness of breath and voice and the sounds of language
Explore prose texts and the genres of epic, lyric and dramatic poetry
Through this work, we explore the spark, radiance, and wider meaning that lives in words. We gain a richer experience of the sounds, rhythms, and movement of language that can help awaken, strengthen, and free the individual self and its connection to the world.
Workshops and Events
Speech Workouts are one- or two-week-long intensive blocks that offer an introduction to the artistic forming of speech through Rudolf Steiner’s exercises in articulation and breathing. During the school year, classes are integrated with the full-time training, taking up special subjects and providing an opportunity to invigorate and enrich participants’ speech through exercises and artistic work. Any block may be taken separately, and all blocks are appropriate for any level of experience. Visit this page for details.
